Throw A Poncho On It

I've had this poncho for quite some time. When I first bought it, I loved it. But, the fear of looking like I borrowed something from my grandma held me back (no offense to all of the lovely grandmothers out there). Now, after seeing the trend all over NYFW, I feel secure in my decision. My advice when choosing a poncho: find one with an edge to it. Whether it has a pattern you're drawn to, or a fur trim like mine, choose one with details that suit you.

For the rest of my outfit I paired black, high-waisted Gap Skinny Jeans with black Forever 21 booties and the lace cut-out top is also from Forever 21 (I'm all about the bargains). While some of you may opt to wear a tank top under a lace top, I love that intimates don't have to be a secret anymore. The idea of sex-ifying your white t-shirt by throwing a dainty bralette underneath is brilliant. And with fall being a season that calls for you to bundle up, ditch the typical layering tank for a lacy intimate to shine through. A little skin never hurt anybody.

I wanted to show the details of this belt. I think the design of it gives the look a 90's vibe, balancing out any modernization the rest of the outfit may have. This belt is actually my mom's. I humbly admit that anything I own that's cool or unique is all thanks to my mother. She has had an eye for style for years, and like any smart woman, she knows that fashion always circulates. So many current trends people sport these days are because of geniuses of the past. My mother is a low-key hoarder and my wardrobe can't thank her enough for that.
